Since then, he has mostly been faithful to the Google phone lineup, though these days, he is also carrying an iPhone in addition to his Pixel 6. ![]() After running into connectivity problems with the HTC One S, he quickly switched to a Nexus 4, which he considers his true first Android phone. His first steps into the Android world were plagued by issues. He isn't shy to dig into technical backgrounds and the nitty-gritty developer details, either. The app uses the same codebase as Plexamp, making both applications behave mostly similar on a visual level. The goal with the original Plexamp was to offer a small desktop player that could handle any music format. You can view all playbacks across multiple servers from your phone, and it's possible to edit artworks and metadata without ever touching a keyboard and mouse. The app gives you all of the features available on the web service. There’s even support for the PiFi Digi+ board, which attaches to the top of a Raspberry Pi and adds an enhanced audio chip and optical output. Plex created Dash to make managing your files easier. You can also install the Plexamp server as a system service that starts at boot, for a more Chromecast Audio-like experience. Other than a Tidal integration, you also have access to a discovery radio, custom mixes, stations, and downloads - it feels pretty much like a streaming service of its own. To open up a terminal window on the desktop, press Ctrl + Alt + T on the keyboard, or search for the terminal in the app menu and open it that way. To start the installation, open up a terminal window. It lets you explore your historic top charts, like what you were listening to in Fall 2019 or what music from the 60s you like the most. Under the hood, Plexamp uses the open source audio player Music Player Daemon (MPD), along with a combination of ES7, Electron, React, and MobX technologies. There are two ways you can get PlexAmp working on your Linux PC: Flatpak and AppImage. The player has a SoundCloud-esque seek bar and blurred backgrounds, with colors extracted from the album art. Fresh out of Plexs new experimental Plex Labs (opens in new tab) division is Plexamp, the companys take on a dedicated music player.
